Please use these statements for your own self-examination in preparation for communion.

The apostle Paul wrote, “Everyone should examine himself first, and then eat of the bread and drink from the cup.” I Cor. 11: 28

  1. I am a baptized child of God who is sorry for my sins and admits my need for forgiveness before God. I John 1: 9
  2. I believe that my sins are forgiven because Jesus Christ has paid the penalty for them with His suffering and death on the cross. Romans 5: 9-11
  3. I believe that as I receive the bread and wine of this sacred meal, that I also receive the true body and blood of Christ, through which I receive the full forgiveness of my sins in this sacrament. Matthew 26: 26-28
  4. As I receive forgiveness, I recognize that God is calling me to change my sinful ways and live in a way that pleases Him. Romans 12: 2
  5. I understand that the Lord’s Supper is for those who have been instructed in its meaning and power, and join in this joyful confession. I Corinthians 11: 27-29
